Dear Kaleid Women,
We’re very grateful to be offering a “Kaleid Contemplative Mornings” series again this fall. We loved our time together over the summer practicing Lament, Imaginative Prayer, and Centering Prayer and we are eager to be together again starting in just a few weeks enjoying three new prayer practices.
If you are looking for a way to enter a rhythm of stillness, openness to the Holy Spirit, and community, we wholeheartedly invite you to join us this fall. We will meet for nine consecutive Wednesday mornings via zoom, as we engage the following prayer practices:
The Prayer of Examen is an Ignatian prayer practice that invites us to review our previous day or week first through a lens of gratitude and then with our heart’s-eye looking for moments where God seemed very near (consolations) and where God seemed far away (desolations). The practice helps us to be more present to the gracious work of the Holy Spirit in our moments and days and to present ourselves to God for redirection and cleansing on an ongoing basis.
Visio Divina means “divine seeing” in Latin. It is an ancient spiritual discipline that invites us to draw closer to God through an image by “seeing spiritually,” with the help of the Holy Spirit, beyond an actual photo, illustration, or picture. The practice helps us to connect the visible beauty in our world with opportunities to receive spiritual insight and guidance.
The Jesus Prayer derives from 6th century Orthodox monastic tradition. It invites us to simply pray, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” The prayer centers us in the reality of Jesus’ identity, Jesus’ presence, and Jesus’ ability to touch and heal us in our broken places.
Through our time together, we seek to make space to be grounded in God’s steadfast love even in a world that swirls with division, fear, uncertainty, and distress. As our hearts are strengthened, we can lean into the specific works of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control that Jesus is doing in us and in our world.
